Technical Description: Shell is globular in shape and snow white in colour. Shell aperture OR cavity is narrow. Shell surface is finely striated forming network like ornamentation. Inner shell lip is light orange in colour. Shell has two beautiful light orange coloured stripes running lenghtwise on the body whorl. Outer lip is translucent i.e diffuse light is seen through the outer lip if shell is hold against strong natural light. Umbilicus is present.
Mythological Description: As per Hindu texts Valampuri Shankh is considered to be a natural form of goddess Laxmi (goddess of wealth) & Vishnu (operator of the universe) which together are called as Laxmi Narayan. It removes the negative effects of all nine planets and blesses the wearer with balanced life keeping him safe against all ods of life.

The Great Dakshinawarthy Valampuri Shankha
Introduction:-
The great Valampuri Shankha is considered to be the most auspicious & rare amongst the shell & conch species. This is the only species which is called as “shank”, whereas rest all are called as shells; It opens towards the right which makes it highly rare unlike unlike most other which open towards the left. It is specifically produced only in south of India right from south west - south - south east in different pocketed areas. It derives its name from Dakshinawarthy meaning "South"; valampuri meaning "Right Sided"; Shank meaning "Conch", so if transalted it means right sided conch from the south. It is the most expensive & oneofthe rarest Shankhs.
Mythological Importance:-
It is considered to be the most natural symbol of goddess Laxmi & lord Vishnu together. It holds great importance in Hindu, Buddhist & various other religions.

This beautiful sacred conch is found in various parts of the Arabian Sea but more often towards the south & hence it got its name from the south of India. Out of the millions of conch produced by nature only a few around 7-10 pieces on average open towards the right & the remaining millions open towards the left hence they are known as right handed conch (Valampuri). So this shankha has its name because it’s produced towards the southern of India (dakshinawarthy) & open towards the right (Valampuri).
Scientific Importance:-
Scientifically it is called as Turbunella Pyrum (Sinistral) & further has six varieties in this species. The varieties differ slightly in terms of shape & its body structure. Rarity: -
On average 4- 5 pcs are traced in a year from the seas & at times it could be even less.
